my face has been muting, putting on speakerphone, initiating facetime.. all while the phone is pressed against my face.
i was on the phone with apple for 21 minutes this morning and the person on the other line simply would not accept that it was not a user issue.
i have had a 3g and a 3gs and never once had this issue.

the person on the phone from apple said he would elevate my issue and have someone contact me in 1-3 days?

Well i'm now on my 2nd iPhone 4. This one doesn't mute or put people on hold like the first one. This one puts people on speaker and likes to open my contacts (lucky no conference calls as yet), I will be putting in another call to Orange and no doubt be put thru to apple to arrange another Genius Bar replacement.

I see people saying it's a software fix but I do not think so, if it was as simple as a software fix they would have released an update by now.

I know people who bought it on day one that ALL have the problem and people that bought it a week later of which none say they have the problem. So why when I get a replacement from the Apple Flagship Store on Regents Street do I get yet another fault one. Begs the question are they recycling these duff phones back out to people.

I have done this already so many times it didn't help matter in fact this is my 2nd IP4 and same thing it keeps on turning on the screen while I am on a phone call and i think its the placement and the sensitivity of the sensor I hope they do address this problem in the news conference on Friday

I have also tried resetting multiple times. Now on my second IP 4. Resetting did not help with either phone. I still hang up, put callers on hold etc. I can see the screen light up out of the corner of my eye mid call sometimes even if I don't move the phone at all during the call. Either Apple addresses this issue or at least acknowledges it publicly tomorrow or i'm just going to return it and go back to my 3GS.

I also have sensor problems even with my replacement iphone 4. Even after resetting and restoring. Unfortunately I already sold my 3gs to my brother and I'm sure he won't give it back. At&T is the only good option for me where I live so I'm stuck there. I guess I could go back and demand to replace it with a new 3gs but then I will be stuck with that 3gs for almost 2 years. Then there is the possibilty that radioshack will not let me bring it back because the replacement came from the Apple Store and not from them. I tried to get a replacement from them but went on a waiting list and still had not heard from them after 2 weeks. This will be my last iphone as I am not a forgiving person.

I have tried all the usual fixes for mine. The only one that seemed to work for a short period of time was the restore option. However, I was on a lengthy phone call last night and of course my screen started to blink off and on and I was holding the phone perfectly still the whole time.

Here is a nice YouTube video comparing the 3GS and 4 sensor reactions:
