Apple Watch series 3 Storing brand new

Hi I'm after some advice. I bought an Apple Watch Series 3 last month as a birthday gift for my partners birthday that isn't until the end of September.

My question is is it ok to store an unopened Apple Watch for over 3 months without the battery going into deep discharge? Or should I make it an early birthday gift?
