MacBook Pro 2018 problem with space bar

I recently bought the MacBook Pro 13.3 inc with Touch Bar. I have been having problems with the space bar inserting two spaces instead of one when I am typing. This happens in many different applications including Word. I have tried turning off the repeat key function in settings but that didn't work. Not sure if it is a hardware or software problem, but it extremely frustrating to be unable to type effectively on such an expensive machine.

This is my fourth MacBook Pro and its the first time I've had this problem.
