iTunes Match, whether it allows one to delete one's music library from device

I am running out of storage on my mac, and need to remove my music library. If I subscribe to iTunes Match and upload my music library, most of which is ripped from CDs, can I delete it from my mac? or do I need to keep my iTunes music library stored on my mac in order to access it through the cloud, using iTunes Match?

I would strongly recommend you make a full offline backup of your library before you start using iTunes Match. If you have a desktop computer moving the library to an external drive would make more sense. Once your music is matched or uploaded to iTunes Match you can remove the download (slightly inaccurate nomenclature) to free up space while retaining the link in your library so that you can stream or later redownload. iTunes Match scores if you have more than one computer or iOS device where you can keep them in sync automatically and wirelessly. Possible downsides are that any accidental deletions are replicated everywhere, and matches may be imperfect, which is why I recommend an initial backup.
