Apple Pencil Ceases to Charge When Attached to iPad Pro
This issue has come up before here, and yet I have found no adequate answer for what the problem is or how to correct it. So, I will ask it again:
How do I correct the issue of the Apple Pencil (Gen 2) ceasing to charge and then draining to 0% charge even while attached to the iPad Pro’s magnetic charging position?
Note: The iPad Pro is kept in the Apple case + keyboard designed specifically for it; it is not an off-brand product.
The issues: The Apple Pencil stops working in the middle of using it, caused by it being inexplicably drained to 0% charge despite having just been attached to the correct charging position (not off center or otherwise improperly attached) on the side of the iPad Pro. This often leads to problems getting the Apple Pencil to connect to the iPad Pro via Bluetooth—it has no charge, so I assume this contributes to that problem.
Solutions tried:
- The Apple Pencil has been replaced with a new one through Apple. The problem remains unchanged and persists.
- Powering off the iPad to see if it will solve the issue. It has not.
- Hard rebooting the iPad, also in hopes that it will fix it. This has also failed to resolve the issue.
- Removing the Apple magnetic case/keyboard. The thinking was perhaps the case was somehow interfering with the Apple Pencil’s charging process. Doing so did not result in any change, and the Apple Pencil continues to lose connection while attached and its charge to drain.
As I typed this, the Apple Pencil once again stopped charging, even though it is attached in the magnetic charging position. After detaching and reattaching several times, the iPad Pro once again connected and revealed that the charging process stopped at 35%.
The only way to get a full charge on the brand new Apple Pencil is to detach-and-reattach, detach-and-reattach the Pencil, over and over so that it gets a little charge before stalling. Rinse repeat.
My iOS version is 12.3.1.
Can someone help me resolve this problem?
Thanks.
