imessage app keeps crashing .

hey everyone ! my imessage app on my iphone xr works completely fine except for when i press the button at the top right to create a new message . whenever i try and type in a new number or names for a new group chat , the whole app just crashes . i’ve tried powering off my phone and powering it back on and closing and reopening the app and none of it works. if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated !! thank you !!!!
