Unable to update or download imovie

Hi, thanks for your help,

I am trying to use imovie for the first time. I have had my mac book pro for a while and have never used it. I tried to open the app, the icon being a gold star - it was the '09 version 8.0.6' but from the menu there was no option to create a new project. I am using Mojave 10.14.6, so thought I needed to update the app. I have uninstalled the old version, and tried to download the imovie app from the app store, but when I click on the cloud, it goes into the cycle / busy mode as if it is going to download, does this for a minute or so, then reverts back to showing the cloud symbol without doing anything.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure what the problem might be.

I would suggest that you contact Apple Support (click on the Contact Support button in the upper right of this screen) and present your issue to them. They might be able to help.

If still no luck, you might consider taking your computer in to the genius bar at an Apple store near you, for hands-on examination.

As you have found, iMovie 8 does not work on Mojave. It is a discontinued app that Apple no longer sells or supports. There is no path to update it to current version iMovie 10.1.12. However, you can open the online App store, sign in with your Apple ID, and do a search for "iMovie app". You will find iMovie 10.1.12 that you should be able to download for free.

Thank you Rich.

Unfortunately, the issue seems to be that the new imovie app (10.1.12) wont download. I can open the app store app, but the imovie app just wont download. it cycles for about 30 seconds, and then the symbol returns to a cloud with an arrow.

I have searched on the web page but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to download the app directly from the webpage.

Any other suggestions?

thanks for your time!
