Export as PDF

I chose “export as PDF” a document from iOS pages and emailed the PDF.

The recipient can open the document in the email, “select all“ then “copy and then paste“ to a new pages or word document, and edit the document. If I choose to copy it to a PDF app and then email it, it is then read only.

Am I missing something in iOS pages “export as PDF” that will make my document read only?

Hi mabellucy,

PDF is a format for sharing docs as they look on your computer. Mostly, it is just for that. people can sign something or fill in blanks but that is about it. Adobe Acrobat is all about creating and editing PDFs. Proprietary software.

I don't understand why PDF is your go to here. Pages can export as a Word or RTF doc and you could share the Pages file itself and keep all the formatting (provided your recipient has a Mac).

Another way to collaborate would be to keep it in iCloud and click the icon with the profile and the "+". Even if they are on a different platform they will be able to make edits in their web browser that will show up on your device without you having to pass the file back and forth.
