Screen blinks black for a second and then resumes working normally

Well, I strongly believe that the issue (or at least for me) has nothing to do with true tone or auto brightness adjustment.

I am working in clamshell mode only, with an external monitor connected. No brightness adjustment is triggered here I think. Neither does true tone work with external monitors that are not from apple (does it even with apple's?).

I'm running a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and experiencing the screen flickering issue ** after ** upgrading to Mojave 10.14.6. Just tried turning off 'Automatically adjust brightness' (as mentioned in previous posts. No 'true tone' option exists for MBP 2015 models) and the screen **still** flickers. Hopefully a further OSX update from Apple with rectify the issue.

I opened my brand new MacBook Air (2019) yesterday and played Netflix. Shortly thereafter, the screen started blinking (mostly) green and (some) black. I had it plugged to a charger, but didn’t consider it as part of the issue— I am just including as an FYI for those who asked about it. I returned the laptop today and brought home another one, thinking it was a hardware issue. The new MacAir I opened 1hr ago is showing the same symptom. This time, I tried the suggestions in this post, but to no avail. I doubt I’ll keep this device. I am very disappointed with the existence of the defect to begin with — worse Mac ever! 💻 🙅🏽‍♀️

Are you using Microsoft silverlight?

It's hard to tell whether it's exactly the same kind of issue, but it's definitely similar. Mine is more concentrated at the bottom of the screen, but the flickering itself is pretty much the same. I also can't seem to reproduce the issue, and I can sometimes use my MacBook for a whole day without noticing any flickering whatsoever.

I'll make sure to submit a bug report, Apple should look into this.

Lol that seems to be a little bit too obvious, doesn't it?

You just call them and they can immediately tell you it is about the software and I am in touch with them since three weeks to deliver more and more information and reproduction.

Did they tell you what kinda software issue? GPU driver? What OS it affects? Anything like that?

Update: Above fix did not resolve the issue after all. The four MacBook Pro 13" 2019s have come back with the issue still occurring despite the display changes in System Preferences. Albeit it seems to happen less often, but it is still apparent to some users.

BeaverMC —I turned off the True Tone and automatic brightness and the issue remains. I pulled my brand new device from its box 1hr or so again... This is the second MacBook— all in a weeks’ work and its it’s only Monday!

I have the same issue too, but I am using MBP 2018 13" and this issue occurred for 1-2 months.

+1 -- having the same issue. MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), running 10.14.6. No peripherals connected.

I have a similar issue and I too am using MBP 2018 although it's 15'' so if you get a reply or find a solution please let me know.

I have the same exact issue (within 24 hrs of using it). Apple replaced me with a new mac, same issue occurs after 1 day of use. OS 10.14.16
