Paying for Part of a Repair?

I recently cracked the screen of my Macbook Pro 2018 Touch Bar, I didn't touch it until I took it in for a repair. At the store, they set up for a repair and sent the Macbook out, and now I received an email telling me that there was also liquid damage. I know the Mac works, I turned it on at the Genius Bar to show the problem. Is there any way I can pay for only the screen repair, and leave the liquid damage as is? Thanks.

Apple will not do just "half" a repair even if the system appears to be running fine otherwise, since they cannot guarantee the repair afterwards. It is too risky for them to allow it. Plus the damage could interfere with the Apple diagnostics which must be run after the repair. Apple is very strict on this matter. If a liquid sensor is triggered, then Apple considers the part damaged and needs to be replaced even if there are no other signs of liquid, corrosion, or damage visible since it could be hidden beneath a part or inside a connector. It is unfortunate if extreme humidity could trigger the liquid sensor.

Did Apple send any pictures? I know that Apple has been known to send pictures to the service provider to show to the owner as proof.

I agree with the assessment of everyone else that Apple won't fix just the display if they find that the liquid contact indicators show anything. Even if they were triggered by something that didn't cause any actual damage. That's just their policy. That would be the first thing they would look for before doing any other work, so I'd be surprised if they can't put it back for you and let you handle it. It's your property and you should be able to have it returned to you unrepaired.

The trouble is that Apple may not work on a Mac with liquid damage - there is a sensor inside which will tell them if it has been exposed; could be high humidity. In any case, a) it is not covered by the warranty (unless you have AppleCare +) and b) water and electronics do not mix, so even though it was working at the store, it may corrode as time passes. So, I would think twice about not fixing it.
