Adding Apple watch user to walkie talkie app

im try to add a contact to my Apple Watch walkie talkie app. The contact is sitting right next to me with their Apple Watch. When I try to add them from the app on my watch I get an error saying they’re not an Apple watch user. How can I add them or get them recognized as an Apple Watch user/owner?

  • They MUST be running iPhone iOS 12.4 (you too)
  • They MUST be running Apple Watch watchOS 5.3 (you too)
  • After the upgrade power cycle both the iPhone and Apple Watch
  • Both of you MUST be able to use your iPhone to make a FaceTime connection to each other (this is just a test as Walkie-Talkie is really a Push-to-Talk FaceTime audio connection, so you MUST have a working FaceTime between your iPhones)
  • In YOUR iPhone Contacts, make sure you have their iPhone number tagged as 'iPhone' NOT "Mobile", NOT "Home" etc...
