Location of thumbnail photos of the photo app

Hello, I lost my external drive where my photo master files were stored. But the photo app on my mac can still show me the tumbnail pictures (the ones with the bad resolution, but better than nothing). So my question: where are these thumbnails stored on my mac so that I can copy and view them outside of the photo app?

You could try to do the following:

  • Select your photos Library in the Finder
  • ctrl-click item, then use the command "Show Package Contents"
  • Click into the Finde window that will open, then enter the key combination ⌘F to open a search window,
  • In the Search window set the search to "Kind > Image file", like this:


This search will list all image files, that can be found in your Photos Library package.
