sync itunes/apple music

I am trying to sync my new apple iphone XR to my apple itunes account through the usb cable. It asked for an update so i updated it and it still will not let me sync. There is a sync button on the bottom, next to the blue "done" button but the sync button is gray and will not let me click on it.

Have you selected Sync options for the phone?

Look on the device:

and then select Music (1.):

select the Sync Music button (2.) so there is a tick in the box
select either Entire music library or the selected playlists, artists, albums and genres
if you selected the selected "lists" option, then section 4. appears and you choose the items you want to put onto the iPod
Now click the Sync (or Done) button
