Creating a Favorite Band Station

I'm new to Apple Music and trying to figure out a few basics. Please pardon these two newbie questions:

(1) When I find an album in Apple Music that I like and then download it to my hard drive (as opposed to simply saving the album as a favorite in my iCloud library), what happens if I later cancel my Apple Music subscription? Will I still be able to play the downloaded m4p files (via iTunes, I assume) saved to my hard drive?

(2) When I've used Pandora in the past, I would simply enter a band name and then the app would create a station that plays similar songs. What is the best way to perform this function using Apple Music and iTunes?

Thanks all, I appreciate all the advice I can get!

  1. No, the Apple Music albums are DRM protected. They will play as long as the subscription is active. Without a subscription a downloaded Apple Music song will not play.
  2. Search for an artist -> right click on the the thumbnail -> Create Station (if you're already inside the artist's overview section, there's a dotted button on the right – there you find Create Station).
