cmd key stuck

Randomly last week I was no longer able to type on my MBP - it was registering but was unable to actually type. I connected my Bluetooth keyboard and could log in and can now see that the cmd key seems to be locked on and I can’t get it to disable. No damage to the keyboard that I can see.

Also so means that left click on my mouse (and trackpad) is actually right clicking - driving me up the wall.

Any suggestions please.

Usually when a key is stuck on the internal keyboard it will affect the external keyboard as well. It sounds like maybe a preference or configuration setting has changed to make the Trackpad perform a right click instead of a normal default left click.

Try creating a new user account to see if the problem is there as well. To eliminate software & preference/configuration issues, try booting into Safe Mode or even better into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R if your laptop is able to do so. Use TextEdit to type to make sure all the keys respond appropriately. If the keys type correctly, then the Cmd key is not stuck on.

You can try typing in TextEdit or another app. Do the keys print the correct characters? If the keys work by displaying the proper characters, then you do not have a stuck key. Instead you have some setting or software modifying the click behavior on the Trackpad. If this is the case, check the Trackpad System Preferences and perhaps the Accessibility preferences.

Thanks for that - managed to create a new account but this then had the same issue as before.

Machine will not boot into recovery mode from built in keyboard and also not from Bluetooth keyboard (assume that this connects later in the boot up sequence) so unable to check the other ideas mentioned.

Is this looking like a hardware issue? 🤔
