No devices in output list (No Sound)

There is no audio devices or internal speakers listed in my output device list.

The first incident of this happened last month, ever since then it occurred 5 more times. NVRAM reset was the only solution. But the strange thing is, my NVRAM doesn't give a chime or sound, it makes a white screen flicker. It rarely ever gets to the chime, but when it does produce the sound, the whole solution is fixed and I can hear sound again. Normally I can get the chime first try, others take a few minutes, but I've been performing the NVRAM reset for hours now. Nothing is working.

When pressing the volume up or down button, there is a volume symbol with a cross symbol underneath, indicating no sound because I have no audio device list. (The image is also attached here).

Yesterday was the most recent time of the incident. I contacted apple support, and one person said to remove the 2 plist files located in /Library/Preferences/Audio/. To my surprise, the NVRAM gave out a sound. But no more than 2 hours later, my sound was glitching again and after I restarted my mac, I found out there was no more internal speakers option, up until now.

I have even tried the solution of removing the plist files again, but I realised that every-time I've been doing the removal of the files and the NVRAM reset, the files reappear in the same folder, even after a normal computer restart. I don't know if that's normal but many apple advisors told me to go get it checked out by a technician at the Apple Store but I would like to avoid that as much as possible. I have even tried running an Apple Hardware or Diagnostic test, and resulted only in something about the Power Adapter.

If you have any solutions, please provide me with some.

Here's a list of troubleshooting steps I have already followed:

  • Removing /Library/Preferences/Audio/ plist files
  • Tested in another user and safe mode (Meaning its system wide)
  • NVRAM Reset
  • SMC Reset
  • Reinstalling macOS
  • Toothpick in hole
  • Apple Hardware Diagnostic Test

You can try running the Apple Diagnostics. I believe it may include an audio test. If the Apple Diagnostic fails an audio test, then you have a hardware issue. You may need to have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider check out the laptop.

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If Safe Mode works, then you have a software issue.

FYI, all preference .plist files are automatically recreated with default settings if the older files are removed. The reason for deleting a preference file is if the file might have become corrupted.

QUICK UPDATE:

I brought my non-sound working laptop to school as I always do, and my mate was being a troll and was holding down the power button on my laptop when I wasn't looking. It wasn't the simple 1 second one and turn it off, it was the hold for 5-7 second and shut down the laptop. As soon as I booted my laptop back on, not really expecting anything, I heard a chime, and boy was I full of joy.

I have tried it with that way of shutting down the mac, but instead of a normal boot, I tried the NVRAM reset but it didn't work, with the screen still flashing.

I don't know if it was just a coincidence that I got the rare sound to play. Unfortunately but fortunately at the same time, my internal speakers is currently working, so I won't be able to test it.

I know the issue is going to happen again soon like it has been over the past month.

I have ran Apple Diagnostic Test, and it only said something about the power adapter.

And it also occurs in safe mode and is system wide
