Ongoing Issue: Null Image in iOS Mail Signatures

This issue has been documented over the last few years in the following threads, but I have not seen a clear resolution for it yet:

On both iPhone and iPad, Settings: Mail: Signature allows you to enter signature lines, and optionally to paste in a graphic (e.g. business logo, etc.) in multiple common formats. After only a few days or a week, the graphic disappears, replaced by a box with the word “null.”

This is of course frustrating and intolerable for those who rely on their devices for business. One suggestion in some threads has been to create an html signature with a link that points back to a server for the desired image, but this is not practical for all users (and it’s unclear if it is truly effective). The same issue does not exist for current Mac OS Mail.

Revisiting this now in 2019 for iOS 12.4, as the issue has persisted for years across multiple iOS revisions: has anyone identified a workaround?

The graphic can be anywhere originally; it is pasted (via clipboard) into the Signature field alongside any text.

To answer your specific question: I obtain the graphic from multiple sources. I may copy it from the signature of another email that I’ve sent from a Mac (email appears in the Sent folder of the email account on iPad), or may copy from the actual graphic file. I’ve tried multiple methods, and formats (PNG, jpeg).
