iCloud won’t recognize internet connection

Hi. I recently downloaded the iCloud app on my Windows 7 desktop PC. Are use Firefox browser with BitDefender antivirus. The iCloud app gives me an error stating it is not connected to the Internet and that I should check my Internet connection. Also says iCloud will go online automatically when it’s text that an Internet connection is available. I have an older Verizon router, which I thought may be the culprit, so I have upgraded to a new Asus router. It still does not recognize the Internet connection. There was an older thread about this, but there was no solution posted. Any ideas? I’m trying to back up my iTunes library (130gb) in preparation to move everything over to a new laptop. Thanks in advance!
