Endless loops for Face ID

Face ID loses what I look like. When I try to set up an alternate face ID, I get an endless loop of "higher" and "lower" with the face frame. How do I get out of that?

Add an alternate appearance

For most users, Face ID will continuously learn as they change. If you have an appearance that can look vastly different, you can set up an alternate appearance so Face ID still recognizes you.

To set up an alternate appearance:

  1. Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode. If asked, enter your passcode.
  2. Tap Set Up an Alternate Appearance.
  3. Look straight into your iPhone or iPad and place your face inside the frame.
  4. Gently move your head to complete the circle. If you're unable to move your head, tap Accessibility Options.
  5. When you finish the first Face ID scan, tap Continue.
  6. Gently move your head to complete the circle for a second time.
  7. When Face ID setup is complete, tap Done.

Bless your heart. I’ve read the documentation. This does absolutely nothing to solve my problem.

One day facial recognition quit identifying me. So I thought I would try to set up an alternative facial recognition following the guidance from Apple.

The problem is is that I get into an endless loop of face higher, face lower.

That is extremely annoying. I’m trying to find out how to break through that when it happens, not how to get treated like someone who skipped reading the manual.

Guess I was just too terse. Hope this clarifies why the advice posted was merely annoying and completely lacking in any use.
