Saving (over) a numbers file in Dropbox

I use dropbox to share items with my biz partner. While copying/pasting some SS info in Numbers among similar files in different dropbox folder locations, I've found that 1.) I can't simply save the file-it's now a new file and I must designate a location which causes problem 2.) When I open the drop down menu to 'save as' it doesn't allow me to go all the way to the file I need. I have tried saving up in the file heirarchy, but I can't find the file after closing.

It's so frustrating. Can anyone explain why Mac doesn't see fit to simply overwrite the existing file (like most people need to do 99% of the time) as the default??? I feel like these machines were designed to entertain techy folks with their (unnecessary) complexity instead of being user friendly.

Many Mac apps, including Numbers, have autosave. You don't even have to think about saving.

Have you tried holding down the <option> key and choosing 'Save As' from the File menu?

Within the dialog that appears you can navigate anywhere you want.

If you use Save As that of course creates a copy of your document if you save in some other location.

If you just Save or Command-S your document is saved in the same location (because of Autosave you rarely have to do that but it's there if you need it).
