When I delete a Message from a conversation, does it get deleted from the recipient as well ?

I have a terrible problem of sending messages accidentally to the wrong recipient, and often confidential.  I am so upset that this means it goes to the wrong person anyway even if I delete it shortly after.  It is not the same as sending a letter, it is a new technology.  I wish there would be able to delete the wrong message sent or at least safeguards like asking 'are you sure you want to send this to (recipient)?'  there are safeguards like 'are you sure you want to shut down computer?'  why not in messages??  I use Messages on my Macbook Pro, high Sierra, and on the iPhone, I don't know the ios on my old phone.  some messages go imessage and some go SMS.
