Im helping a friend using apple Mail, she selected all mails in a pop folder and copied to her new imap folder. The action is taking days to copy 6500 (currently at 200 of 6500) emails and this is interrupting with her incoming mails.
Is there a way to find and permanently stop this action?

Have you tried quitting and reopening Mail? Interrupting the copy could possibly result in the loss of some emails.

If nothing else we could have removed and readded this account so that it just workflows what's already on the server so far because this is still faster. But as recommended We'll allow IMAP to finish its job.
One of the differences between imap and pop is this behaviour.
It is a synchronisation process: Let it do its job, you may loose some mails if you stop it.
Yes we have. Thinking of this makes me realise that the copy function was completed. The remaining and ongoing action is uploading of the newly copied mail to the server. Could there be a way to stop this in IMAP?
The sync is a normal part of an IMAP account. You need to let that compete.
