Issue signing into iTunes.

When I try to sign into iTunes on my MacBook Air it asks for my id then my password has a little think then the box disappears and nothing happens. I am new to Mac. Have had iPhone since the beginning and thought this would be easier than this.

I have signed into the App Store without issue.

Please help
