Gaining Administrator Access

A used Mac Mini was passed on to me by a family member.

I've updated it to MAC OS X Version 10.6.8

I tried to download and install some chess software

but the system required that I enter the

current administrator password which I don't

have and have no way of getting. What do

I have to do to become the new administrator?
