AppleTV option as audio output when on phone call

Why does Apple TV show up as an option when I am on a phone call and tap "Speaker" ... I don't want to see this as now it requires me to tap twice for speaker phone (trust me, this is annoying!).

Thanks,

*Solved* (at least for me anyway). I did a hard reset on my iphone X (Volume up, Volume down, Hold power button until apple logo). Then made a test call and the apple tv audio source went away.

Was on a trip. Buddy brought his apple tv, we air played to it. For the next 3 days that apple tv came up as an audio source for calls even though he lives in an entirely different house in our complex. Good luck

Ok—I think you’re onto something with this.

I went to the Apple TV 4 in question and I saw not only my iPhone but also my son’s iPad connected as remotes. What I’m guessing happened is because the devices were physically close to the Apple TV 4 and because the device will pair with iPhone or iPad within a certain vicinity (whatever the device considers “close”), that they paired. There’s an elliptical machine directly in front of the Apple TV and we sometimes use our devices for entertainment while using the elliptical. I tested that his iPad would show the Apple TV as an audio device for a FaceTime call.

I unpaired both from the Apple TV 4 as the previous post suggested and now I don’t see the Apple TV 4 as an audio option during a phone call.

I updated to iOS 13.4 And iPadOS 13.4 respectively before I tried this but I suspect it would’ve worked on 13.3.1.

To disable this highly annoying 'feature' you must go into Settings on each Apple TV, Accounts and log out of your icloud account, then Restart both your Apple TV and your iPhone. Unfortunately this means other benefits of using your icloud account are also removed but for me, removing this stupid feature was worth it. This should be a setting within the Apple TV that you can control but that is not currently the case. Apple needs to address this without further delay. I don't know anyone who likes it!

Below steps worked for me:

  1. From your Apple TV, open Settings
  2. Navigate to User and Accounts and select iCloud
  3. Click on Sign Out

Then go back to Settings on your Apple TV:

  1. Scroll and select Remotes and Devices
  2. Select Remote App and Devices
  3. Tap on Your iPhone and select Unpair Device
  4. Restart your Apple TV and iPhone

After you have restarted both the Apple TV and iPhone, call yourself and test the speaker.

Agreed! It is super annoying!!!

I found that by going on your Apple TV >Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices > Unpair your iPhone - That fixed the problem for me. Man it was super annoying I will just use my Siri remote from now on...Until they fix it. Please report it as well. I haven't looked into this issue too deep but will further research.

I was having this same issue. My mother was too after connecting to my wifi network. When she went home (2 hours away) it was still showing my apple tv as an audio option for speakerphone. I corrected mine by Resetting the Network Settings. Then I reconnected back to my wifi network and that seems to have resolved the issue.

It was weird because it only showed my one appletv and I have 2.

Just a bit more background so you can make relevant comparisons.

I have three 4K, three 4, and one 3 (plus four phones and four iPads) on my home network, all same SSID and connected to same iTunes library. Technically, they’re all on WiFi though I do have one 4K (not the one in question) connected by an Ethernet cable to a range extender. I’m not sure how you'd regard that.

Only one of the 4’s shows on my phone and iPad. Upon further review, both of those devices were brought into close proximity with the offending Apple TV which I believe is the root cause of the pairing. I can repeat this root caused pairing and hence the Apple TV as an audio source by bringing an iPhone or iPad close to the Apple TV.

I removed the iPhone and iPad using the physical remote of the Apple TV. I no longer see Apple TV as an audio source.

Hello Jmangotti and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I see you have a question about the audio devices your iPhone sees as being able to connect to. What you're seeing is expected behavior. The iPhone will show any AirPlay enabled devices close by which would include that Apple TV when they are connected to the same Wifi signal. To stop seeing the Apple TV when you tap the speaker icon would be to disable wifi on your phone.

Cheers.

This is not a fix, neither is it solely an apple id issue (as has been stated elsewhere), a bluetooth pairing issue it is network related. So long as both devices are on the the same network regardless if on ethernet or wifi they will see each other and you will have this problem. Restarting, logging out loggin in makes no difference, neither does unpairing, disabling airplay, homekit or all the options on apple tv. At this point as I have only just come across this and I am unsure if indeed a separate apple id will even fix this, currently I am logged out of icloud on the apple tv yet my iphone can still see it - the only wway to resolve this right now is to use an intelligent switch and ring fence the apple tv on it's own network so it cannot see other home devices. Forget creating a guest wifi, that doesn't work either as the router will u turn the ip address as soon as it hits the router unless you configure a VLAN on it.

I just spoke to Apple C/S and the rep said it is due to an update. The rep stated that any Apple device connected to the same network should show.

I drive away from the house so was no longer on WIFI. The Apple TV option disappeared. As I pulled into the garage it returned.

The C/S rep said to try giving it a different ID/login. I decided it wasn’t that serious. Once I knew it was valid, I let it go. Not knowing why it was there bothered me more than it being there. Hope this satisfies as a response/fix.

I've read through all the responses, and this won't help everyone, but for us the (temporary) solution was simple: we just turn off the TV device when we aren't using it (which is most of the time). It then doesn't show up in the list of audio options on the phone. I'm a bit confused why people are seeing the option when out driving, but it seems to have worked for us, anyhow.
