AppleTV option as audio output when on phone call

Just unpair your iPhone from your Apple TV and do not make any attempts to use it as a remote control wirelessly. Tested a few times and must be paired again and removed. Even if the Apple TV is sleeping it’s odd. Only noticed it on my 4K Apple TV. Which model is yours?

I turned off WIFI and Bluetooth from the settings menu, not the shortcut menu, then shut my phone down for a few minutes. Turned it back on and it seems to have worked.

Further to my previous post this is done on the Apple TV itself.

restart both the Apple TV and iPhone.

Try signing out of icloud on apple tv. It’s solved temporarily. The remote stayed for me didn’t go away. But if you want your photos and download an app you have to sign back in until it’s solved

This is perhaps the worst "feature" Apple has ever offered. A huge inconvenience to 99.99% of users, just in case one person out there might want to do the occasional conference call on an Apple TV.

There is one workaround I came up with, which is to use Call Audio Routing (under Settings/Accessibility) to default all calls to speaker. I used that for a while, but it messed with Bluetooth in the car and caused other problems. I eventually switched it back to normal, which resurrected this stupid problem. I don't want to disconnect all my Apple TVs or sign out of my network, and it is maddening that I can't easily take calls on speaker when in range of another device. I hope Apple will someday fix this.

I hope you're posting an early April Fool's joke. On my phone, I see two of the same Apple TV option as audio sources. It's definitely not a feature because you can't send the audio to the Apple TV.

The next topic I hope Apple fixes is when I'm on a call with a Bluetooth earpiece and my phone is plugged into the car and therefore Apple CarPlay is active. The call will randomly jump from Bluetooth earpiece to the car, ten, twelve, 15 minutes into the call.

You can find this setting by going to Settings > Cellular > Call on Other Devices > Allow Calls on other devices (Off/On)

BTW - Mine was turned off all this time and had this issue but eventually I got rid of it by unpairing twice but I am sure it will plague me again.

Ok guys I think this issue is solved in the next update on Apple TV I just downloaded the TV OS 13.3.1 beta and it doesn’t show anymore

Finally!!! I swapped my AppleTV for Roku. Problem solved!

I’m on version 13.1.3 with my XSmax and the audio issue seems to be fixed. I’ve been using my HomeKit along with Apple TV’s and have not seen the audio (instead of speaker) option during a phone call. Hopefully this new update available (13.2) doesn’t cause an issue.

prncss35 stated that it was resolved by ”resetting network settings.” Personally, I’m not in the mood to go this route. It’s a PITA for me to get credentials for all my other wireless networks.

Has anybody else found success with Prncss35’s solution?

Another thing: 2 Apple TV’s on my account... 5 in my family account. Only 1 shows up as an option.

using the remote by itself is not very practical, because you'll be missing out on the continuity feature between the phone and apple tv when you have to write something or fill in passwords and so on. the solution you provide might be a temporary fix, but this issue seems to be only solved by apple. I have tried to use the apple tv as audio source on my phone during a phone call, nothing happens. No audio comes out anyways, since it's useless I think it's a bug.

Nope , Still broke.

I say “Broke” because this is not a working function of the I phone. As others have stated, when you try and use the function “Call over Apple TV” it tines out and reverts back to your standing phone option.

Does anybody having this issue using HomeKit?

I have an arlo HomeKit device. My brother doesn’t have any devices and doesn’t have this issue.
