FCPX, footage pointing to Alias inside the original media

FCPX right click reveal in finder pointing to Alias, and the original file can not be found even clicking fix alias or performing a search. Its no where on my computer. What is the strange thing that I have no problem to share amd make a final movie of all clips that pointing to alias.

So the mystery is: "Where is the footage" Actually its a stock footage with a long name.

FCPX media missing from timeline but is in browser and plays from browser. In two recent projects using the same media around 1/4 of the clips in the time line are reported as missing showing the red and yellow warning notification. When I select Reveal In Browser the clips are there. When I play the clip in the browser it's fine. If I then select the browser clip and then right click to reveal in Finder a window opens and correctly shows the file in the Original Media folder and it can be played from there. The project is set up to use Original optimised Media not Proxy and so it's not a case of missing Proxy files. The project has always used original mai from day one never Proxy. I am trying to export a video of the project for a client who needs it today but at the moment the only solution I can see is to re-edit the missing sections which will take me all day. Any ideas how the timeline can be updated to show the "missing" media? This is not a case of re-linking as the files are already properly linked in the browser. OSX 11.5.2 FCPX 10.5.4 All projects and media are on an external 7200 RPM G-Tech desktop hard drive which is my usual editing drive.

Where do media files "live?" I think I read that iMovie does not make new copies of media added for the purpose of being used in movies. But rather it references those files in the location from which they came. Is this true? Just to be clear. Let's say I have a "ForMovies" folder on my desktop where I drop audio and video clips that I intend to use in iMovie for movie projects. I drag a video clip file--let's call it PurpleHaze--into the media section of iMovie. I then use PurpleHaze in a movie. Then at some later point I accidentally trash the PurpleHaze file from the "ForMovies" folder. And I empty the Trash. Will the PurpleHaze clip still be in the project, and the movie function correctly? Or is it a goner, and my movie is missing part of its content?

Where are the movies I made on iMovie? When I click on my iMovie Library and click on a title, I get the media displayed in the upper left area but not the finished Movie project that I took so long to make! It shows another view clip on the movie timeline. And---all the titles in my Library have that same video clip on the timeline---so apparently I've lost all my work!!! I thought iMovie saved each video. Some of those videos were hours of work.

Tom, you are the best. The mystery has been solved. It was in the Transcoded media. I don't normally optmize media if it's a stock footage MP4 files, as it takes up a lot of room. I do only 4K footage. Maybe I should also the lower resolution, but this is another question.

I don't optimize because I can not make MP4 make it look better in Apple pro res. 422. But I heard that its easier and faster to work using Prores.

Difficult to tell exactly what happened. It sounds as if you created optimized media and the application is playing that though the originals are missing. This is a dangerous situation. It’s easy to do something that will makes the files appear as missing.
