iPhone X not switching to 3G when LTE signal is poor

I am often in an area where the LTE signal can be very weak and spotty at times, but it get fairly good 3G signal. I have my settings set for LTE for voice and data (for when I am in the city, most of my time).

I noticed that my iPhone X will stick to LTE even if no signal (1 bar or less) and apps will say I have no service, and iOS will not switch to 3G. I have to turn LTE off manually. And surprise, full speedy 3G signal/service.

This was never an issue with my 5S. It would switch back and forth between LTE and 3G.

Is it possible to create a shortcut to switch from LTE to 3G? 7 clicks is absurdly inefficient in this day and age.

Needless to say that this is a disappointing performance from a premium device. Does anyone know what caused the change in performance? Is this something being looked into?

Thanks for any useful tips or insight!

Bell / TELUS

I have access to 3G and LTE. The issue is the iPhone X (same issue for my friend’s iPhone XS) not switching from LTE to 3G when LTE signal is weak/absent and yet 3G is available and strong. I have to force the switch manually by turning off LTE in my settings.

Both phones were purchased directly from Apple.

I have read in another forum it has to do with the different chips ... urban legends?
