iPod Classic 2nd Generation 2003-2003

Hi Apple Community, I have an iPod 2nd generation 2002-2003, I haven't used in so long, but I decided to use it, I got a new battery. Now I have an iMac running High Sierra and iTunes 12.8.2.3, and using a firewire adapter from 400-800 port, when I plug in, the iPod charges but my computer does not recognize it at all, not even on disk utility.

I was thinking, maybe it was a window formatted version and back in there they shipped customized to Mac or Windows.

Any ideas on how to put the iPod on UDF ? or Do I need a windows PC ?

Which version of Mac OS X do I need or Windows XP?

Please HELP!!!!!!

You might check the docking port for fluff in case you're getting power connected but not data. Or try another cable if you have one. Will the device go into disk mode, and if so will your Mac see it in that mode?

Impressive, my old 30 pin and lightning ports are always collecting fluff. Do you have a known good cable that works with another device? Power and data probably run down separate wires. Mac is a better bet for any FireWire iPod.

Well the port are super clean, no damage that I can see, (see picture), I don't know what else can it be. is not the HDD, I have an external enclosure for 1.8' HDD, and the HDD works. But I don't know what else to do!... Help!!!

Yeah I know, I like to take care of my stuff.

I have the original apple firewire, and I also bought a separate firewire 400 to 800 , and even used thunderbolt adapter, but nothing. I was reading that it could be the firewire port itself, and I will have to do take it and replace it. sounds like a lot of work!!!

Any feedback on that?

I'm afraid not, my first iPod was a 5th gen. I've swapped out several batteries and headphone jack/holdswitch assemblies on 5th & 6th gen. devices, but no experience with older models.
