new USB mac keyboard doesn't work with Imac but IBM keyboard does work

My USB Mac keyboard quit working, so I've been using a windows USB keyboard. I bought a new mac keyboard, expecting it to work, and it doesn't work either. All USB slots tried. Windows keyboard works, mac keyboard doesn't.

Is the Apple keyboard a wired or wireless keyboard or wireless, your post is not completely clear.

Also, have you done any basic such as resetting the SMC several times with all external peripherals disconnected?
