Refurbished Macbook Pro is running very slow

I recently bought a Refurbished Macbook Pro from techtrade. It was rated gold standard however, it is running very slow. Applications are very slow to open and are often unresponsive. Sometimes even typing and tracker pad is slow to respond. It effects my general use of it everyday. I have used CleanMyMac X which has seemed to have helped a little but still have some issues. I also ran EtreCheck and it has highlighted 3 major issues: no time machine backup, failing hard drive and Antivirus software issues. Minor issues include Upgradeable hard drive, Upgradeable RAM, Out of RAMT, Unsigned files, Vintage hardware, Encrypting or decrypting and Limited drive access. I have pasted the link to the full report below. Can anyone provide any help on how to solve these issues (obviously I am mainly concerned with the major issues).

For starters, never use CleanMyMac. It's practically malware. Uninstall it as per the developer's instructions. There have been may reports of CleanMyMac crippling Macs.

Uninstall all anti-virus apps. No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system. Your Mac has all the built-in protection you need.

macOS - Security - Apple

Also, your Mac may be running the very slow 5400 RPM hard drive and/or have insufficient RAM.

Your hard drive is failing and can be replaced with an SSD. This will increase your speed dramatically. Also 4GB RAM is a bare minimum. Suggest you upgrade that to at least 8GB.

You can find everything you need at OWC, a great source for all things Mac. They also have step-by-step instructions on how to replace. If you don't want to DIY, then use an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider).
