CAN I CREATE A PARTITION ON A FUSION DRIVE?

Hi there, I have an iMac 4k retina with a fusion drive, the thing is, I like to have at least 2 partitions, one for the system and another one for the other old files and folders, like an archive.

My question is, can I create a partition on my fusion drive? If I do that, the drive with the system remains as a fusion drive or not?

And is there some kind of guide to do that partition somewhere?

Thanks

For your stated use, creating a partition is a waste and creates unnecssary complexity and possible future problems. These days, the only reason to partition is if you are installing different OS's on the computer. Each OS would have it's own partition. For your needs either store your archives on an EHD or create a archives folder and save the files on the main drive in the archives folder.

Yes, you can add one partition; however, I would also advise against it. Aside from rkaufmann's excellent advice, getting rid of an additional partition is almost impossible. I had an iMac with a fusion drive for a week; created a partition immediately; after that, other problems led Apple to advise that I should return/exchange it. It took me 3 days to get it back to fresh out of the box condition (including wiping the drive); it would simply not cooperate. Finally, for reasons unknown, my bootable clone was finally recognized and I was able to do it.

Short version: fusion drives are not easy to control, so don't change anything. Get an external drive as suggested. FWIW, if you are storing things you need and the hard drive should fail, having them on the same internal drive will mean that you will lose those as well.
