Google map navigation low sound volume

Have been using Google Maps a lot when need navigations. Never a problem.

As of last week, SUDDENLY, the volume is about HALF the level it used to be, even if I set the phone's volume to maximum... While driving it's practically useless now.

...Interestingly, using Apples Maps app, the volume there is normal.... Is Apple pulling a trick here, to force us to use their Map app, instead of Google's?....

See my Google Maps settings screen shot.

Any idea?

According to your screenshot, you have "Play voice over Bluetooth" disabled.

If that's actually not true, restart your iPhone and try again. If you continue to have the issue, delete Google Maps and re-download.

Also, remember that you have to have some other audio source playing in the background through Bluetooth for navigation prompts to be heard properly (same as with any navigation over Bluetooth).

OK, so you're routing the audio out through the Lightning port on the iPhone. This likely points to an app problem which re-downloading may help (although it could be a bug, so wait for an update?)

I was just wondering if it isn't an Apple "trick" to switch people to it's own Maps app...

No, Apple and Google haven't had the best relationship, but there'd be no reason for such a petty, anti-competitive act.

Wow OK really simple setup then. If nav prompts can't be heard well from the iPhone speaker, that's either a problem with the app (delete and re-download) or perhaps something corrupted in the iPhone itself (start with re-starting the iPhone, worse case backup and restore).

I wasn't suggesting that you wait for an update, just that if you get nowhere with these steps you may need to wait and see if an update helps things. You might not hear many complaints, but playing navigation only out of the iPhone speaker may not be a popular activity.

I actually did restart my iPhone. Didn't fix it. I also tried switching the Bluetooth thing on and off (I don't have Bluetooth in my old car). So I guess I'll have to delete and re-download.
