itunes is not recognizing my ipod

Itunes is not recognizing my ipod even though Windows 10 shows it is there. So I disconnected itunes and restarted it. But in doing that it DID recognize my ipod as a new one, BUT DID NOT show my Itunes library panels! Thus I can't change the ipod as it is either recognizing the library functions WITHOUT recognizing the device or recognizing the device WITHOUT the itunes functions! Can somebody help me clear this?

Also itunes was working perfectly until this evening and I made NO changes; so this whole process has me confused.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You can find direct links to the standard installer at the bottom of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community. You have to delete the Microsoft Store version (right-click the tile for options I think) before installing the other version. Either work on Windows 10, but Microsoft are obviously keen to encourage use of the store.

With Windows 10 you may find that the old style iTunes64Setup.exe installer works better for you than the version from the Microsoft Store. iPod classic should still be supported. Mine connects to iTunes 12.9.6 on Windows 7. iTunes 12.6.5.3 is the last build able to transfer iPod clickwheel games.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the application should have no impact on your data. It lives in a separate place on your hard drive which you're not given any instructions to delete. You are however encouraged to back up your data. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy - Apple Community for a suggested approach. In the unlikely event that iTunes doesn't show your content as it should after reinstalling or updating I've also supplied recovery advice at Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community.

Tried the solution you recommended. Also used multiple USB Cables and USB ports to no avail. Also checked device manager to ensure I had the most current driver.

The one option I didn't try was another computer, because the drive I use for music library is attached to this computer; so not sure what good that would do.

Somebody mentioned, although I could not validate, that my 160GB Classic iPods (I have 8 of them) were no longer recognized in the most current Windows 10 version of iTunes. I hope this is not the case as that would mean I could never read/update those 8 iPods. They would essentially be "stuck in time", making them virtually useless for use other than listening to what's on them and nothing else.

Thoughts on this, and other troubleshooting options I might consider?

Again the basic problem is Windows 10 is recognizing the existence of the iPods, but the current version of iTunes is not.

Thanks again, but can I actually use the other install? I was told to update via the Microsoft store version; so I've been led to believe that since I already updated to THAT current version I won't be allowed to re-install using the Apple version.

If I'm able to, your advice on how to do so would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Al 8 of my iPods re clickwheel oriented. But I only use my iPods for music; nothing else. Does that present yet other problems?

Thanks again, but this surfaces yet another question. If I un-install the Microsoft Store version and re-install with the Apple version, won't I lose access to my iTunes music library?

The reason I ask this is that I did do an un-install/re-install a number of years ago for a different reason, but then couldn't acess the 200000+ songs portfolio I had in the itunes library. The new install apparently did not let me "point" to the right directory.

So will I be OK with the solution you recommend?
