2019 MacBook Pro won’t reset SMC

I’ve got the 2019 MacBook Pro touchbar (T2 chip) and I’m trying to reset the ambient light sensor (ALS) via an SMC reset but am unable to. I’ve followed both of the procedures outlined in the MacBook T2 section to no avail. Any advice?

PS having come from a 2009 MacBook Pro it is quite a leap in the reset procedures.

I don't know since I don't have the same model, but if it is not working properly you should take it back to the vendor from whom it was purchased. There may be a hardware problem or you may be doing it incorrectly. It's under warranty.

Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD).

"Your Apple-branded or Beats-branded hardware product (“Product”) is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase (“Warranty Period”) when used in accordance with Apple`s user manuals (refer to www.apple.com/support/country). Under this warranty, you will be able to direct your claims to Apple even in situations where you purchased the Apple Product from a third party.” [Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty – Accessory - For Apple and Beats Branded Products Only.]

Thank you for the reply. Those steps are the ones that I’ve been attempting to follow but they don’t seem to reset the ambient light sensor. I’ve got it on auto brightness then slide it way down so I know that it was reset properly but it won’t do so. Maybe I’m holding down the LEFT Control & LEFT Option & RIGHT SHIFT with the power button incorrectly?
