I deleted my airport express from my airport extreme (duh me) - how to reconnect?

Now Airport Utility won't find the deleted Airport Express no matter what or how I try.

Hi Bob,

Thanks again! Making progress as my Airport Extreme is now seen as a wi-fi device on my network. I get an error message "Airport Express an error occurred". If there's a link/URL to what settings the Express needs, Im pretty good at following directions but then the reset should have removed any settings I may have changed?

Start over again and reset the AirPort Express back to its original default settings and then set it up again.

To reset the AirPort Express.......

Power it up and let it run a few mintues

Hold in the reset button for 7-8 seconds, then release

Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status

Now, you can set up the AirPort Express again.

After you perform the Hard Reset.......AirPort Utility will not "see" the AirPort Express. You have to set it up again. Then......AirPort Utility will see the device once it has been configured.

So, after you perform the Hard Reset.......

Click the WiFi menu at the top of your Mac's screen

Look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station

Click on AirPort Express

When you click on AirPort Express, that will start up the AirPort Utility setup "wizard" to guide you through the configuration. Just follow the prompts.

If you try this a few times and the AirPort Express does not appear under the listing of New AirPort Base Station, the Express is failing or has failed.

New, refurbished and used AirPort Express devices are available on Ebay. There is no other device offered by another manufacturer that does what the AirPort Express does.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for taking the time to help me. I had looked up many ways to recover my old Airport Express and your steps were the first I'd tried. Even after a hard reset Airport Utility would not find my Airport Express. It's an old one (plugs directly into the wall for power) and I'm thinking it may have given up the ghost. Used ones are hard to find and expensive. If you know of another brand that might work with my Apple Extreme to extend my network, I'd appreciate hearing back.

Sincerely,

Don Weiser

Bob and rudegar, THANK YOU BOTH!!!!! I can't thank you enough!!!!!!!! Used a bit of both your replies to get my Airport Express functioning again as a wireless extender. It shows a green light now when it has an ethernet cable that runs the full length of the house and provided my iMac with a wired connection to the network but I also can connect wirelessly so seems like I don't need that ethernet cable so I can use it for the Airport Express to extend my network. If I remove the Ethernet Airport Utility doesn't see the Express so it can be configured but I'm considering it problem solved with both your excellent advice!!!!!
