Missing IMAP folders

Some of my IMAP folders do not appear on my MacOS Mail devices, but are visible on my iOS devices.

Specifically, I set up a new (to me) Mac. All of the sub folders associated with one of my IMAP accounts are not displaying on the Mac but are visible on the iPad and iphone.

The folders work as expected on my iPad and my iPhone (that is, I can see the folders in my folder hierarchy, and can see the messages in the folders, and can move messages to/from the folders).

I can only see the Inbox my Mac

If I try to re-create one of the missing folder names on the Mac, I get an error telling me that the folder already exists (so Mail sees it, but won't show it to me).

So....I'm stuck here. Suggestions appreciated.
