Unsync Safari from firefox bookmarks SOLUTION

I've been having this issue of being unable to edit any of my Safari bookmarks for a year and finally found a fix online. I've seen other threads on here asking about the same issue, and the solution of deleting the bookmarks.plist simply didn't work.

When trying to edit a bookmark, the prompt that comes up is "You have been using Safari with bookmarks and history imported from Firefox. To edit your bookmarks, you must first keep or remove the firefox data."

I found the solution on this blog and the instructions are as follows:

  1. Reboot your mac while holding CMD+R
  2. In the menu bar, select Utilities > Terminal
  3. Enter "csrutil disable", press enter, restart.
  4. Find ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist.
  5. Move this file to the desktop and delete it.
  6. Restart Safari and you should be good to go!
