Firefox bookmarks disappeared on my Mac Mini

I got this warning strip when I opened Firefox on my Mac Mini "the bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem".

Could Mac Catalina security software be interfering with firefox bookmarks? or has this happened to anyone else. I've switched back over to Safari, and checked constantly today to make sure nothing of any monetary importance was tampered with.

Mac Mini (late 2014)

Catalina 10.15.5

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Firefox/Mozilla has a fix for this (the first thing they suggest is restart your computer, but if that doesn't bring things back, they have a manual process to restore your bookmarks):

FWIW, I've been using Firefox on Catalina since last year on 5 different Macs and have never seen such a message. Nor have I seen a similar post.

Install EtreCheck and post the report. Allow full disk access.

Hi, I've already been in touch with them, and they don't seem to know. I've tried all the things they've suggested. I'll just have to get used to Safari. I'm still keeping an eye on my bank accounts, and so far everything is fine. My big fear was a hack, but twelve hours later, nothing has happened. Thanks for posting.

etrecheck sounds like an idea, but I'd never allow a third party access to the disc. I've checked for malware or anything strange in the library/daemons but clean. Thanks for looking at the post.
