Upgraded to latest version of iTunes (Windows) - Doesn't show any song titles, artists etc

I have recently purchased an iphone XS. I normally backup my phone to my laptop so plugged it in and was told that I needed to upgrade to the latest version of itunes. I have done that, but now when I load it, I cannot see any information. Please help.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Thanks for your advice. I uninstalled EVERYTHING as you advised, and reinstalled an older version.

This eventually worked.

Unfortunately I then got cocky and tried to connect my Iphone XS to my now fully functioning itunes and received the message - ITunes could not connect to this iPhone. An unknown error occurred (0xE800000A).

I then tried to update to the latest version again hoping this would solve that issue but I'm now having the original problem. I will start from scratch again tomorrow.

A weird side note - I contacted Apple Support. When they screen shared with me, all of the missing information appeared on itunes. When they disconnected from my laptop, all of the information disappeared again. Why is upgrading never a simple process????
