If my MacBook Air is fully charged is it better to unplug the battery or keep it on the charger?

If my MacBook Air is fully charged and I am using the computer is it better to unplug the battery or keep it on the charger? I do not want to compromise the battery by keeping it on the charger if this is not recommended.
