repeatedly ask to sign into icloud

I am repeatedly as to sign into iCloud on my iMac. I also have a laptop but it does not require me to sign into iCloud. Why does it not recognize me on both machines?

Hi ehaagen,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're being repeatedly prompted to sign in to iCloud on your iMac, but you're not seeing this behavior on your other device. I can see why you'd reach out about this behavior; I'd like to help. First, try starting your Mac in safe mode and testing for the issue:

"Start up in safe mode

To start up in safe mode:

    1. Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
    2. Release the Shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault, you might be asked to log in twice: once to unlock the startup disk, and again to log in to the Finder.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.

If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode

If an issue doesn't happen when your Mac is started in safe mode, try restarting without pressing any keys.

    • If the issue comes back, you might have incompatible login items.
    • If the issue doesn't come back, it was probably caused by a cache or directory issue with your startup disk, which safe mode fixed."

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

If the issue persists in safe mode or returns after restarting your Mac normally, use the steps below to reset the login keychain on your Mac; please keep in mind that you'll need to re-enter passwords for iCloud and apps like Mail after doing this, so be sure to have those handy:

    1. "Open Keychain Access, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
    2. Choose Preferences from the Keychain Access menu, then click the Reset My Default Keychain button in the preferences window. After you enter your new password, Keychain Access creates an empty login keychain with no password. Click OK to confirm.
    3. If you don't see a Reset My Default keychain button, close the preferences window and select the “login” keychain from the left side of the Keychain Access window. Press the Delete key, then click Delete References.
    4. Choose Log Out from the Apple menu to return to the login screen."

Change or reset the password of a macOS user account

After you've logged out, sign back in to your user account and enter the passwords you're prompted for, including iCloud. Take some time to see if the prompt to sign in to iCloud continues.

Let me know what you find.

Best Regards.
