Does Apple Card not work with Paypal?

I tried to set my Apple Card up today as my "preferred" credit card on Paypal. When I tried to process a payment from a merchant I received message that payment could not be processed and try again with another card.

The Goldman Sachs rep I just talked to said that it’s because there isn’t a cash advance option with Apple Card and that people can potentially use PayPal as a workaround. So all PayPal (plus Cash app, Venmo, and the like) will always be declined. Still a bummer, but at least there’s an explanation.

Unfortunately, Im glad that I am not the only one. Heres the real deal, I spent a lot of time on this. Apple chose to not allow this card to be utilized by 3rd parties, which apparently PayPal is considered. I spoke to a customer service agent at Apple and Goldman, multiple times, and got a variety of answers. I was first told its because of the third parties and then since PayPal is Apple Cards main competitor. But be aware, the card wont work on your eBay account either. Since eBay and PayPal were once combined, and have now since separated, the transactions still process through PayPal (they still process eBays transactions). So please add eBay to the places Goldman Sachs Apple Card wont work.

Oh btw, when you use your card through PayPal or on eBay, the transactions come through as fraudulent rather than what should be an error.

Whether or not it is an Apple issue is beside the point: it simply does not work with PayPal and, should one try to use it for such, you’re very likely to get your GS/Apple card account temporarily frozen. At that point, you’ll need to contact GS and go through their process to unfreeze it. It simply will not work with PayPal, even though other MasterCard accounts do.

Welafever, You can add the Apple card to PayPal but when you actually purchase something utilizing the Apple Card as payment through PayPal, the transaction will not be processed. This had happened to me when I was attempting to buy something on eBay. Then the customer service rep told me to bypass PayPal and I pay directly on eBay but once again the transaction did not process because eBay processes transactions through PayPal.

I just spoke with GS and got pushed up a level - they said the same thing that they do not support 3rd party pay apps such as PayPal. I believe this is actually a breach of MasterCards agreement. I had a $6k gold purchase declined with no notification in in my apple wallet so they are just blocking it and not giving you the option of allowing it to go through. At this point I am deciding if the card is even worth keeping. I have always believed in Apple and its products but this a pretty short sited way of running a business.

I've talked to two GS support people, and both said that AppleCard cannot be used with PayPal, both also told me that I would have known that had I read the Customer Agreement, which I have since done and find no mention of PayPal or any other specific financial transaction manager. This is deceptive. Leads me to believe that AppleCard is primarily part of a larger Apple strategy to control more of the electronic funds transfer environment for consumers and shut out as many others - like PayPal - as possible. I would try this with CashApp but fear another GS meltdown over fraud and them suspending my card again.

Apple sets the terms for their cards, while Goldman Sachs fulfills the account maintenance and customer service. It is absolutely pointless to contact PayPal because they arent the ones declining the transactions nor setting the terms for the Apple Card. I had contacted Goldman Sachs for support throughout this process and the customer services was horrible because they just didnt know the Apple Cards terms. They were also unaware why eBay transactions were being returned and noted they are new to handling these type of issues.
