iCloud Drive upload feature deleted everything on my local Desktop

I have been using iCloud Drive for a few months now on my Macbook Pro 2014 (macOS Mojave 10.14). I was low in HD space for a few weeks and suddenly last night everything on my Desktop was deleted.

Luckily, everything (actually meant most) is saved on iCloud Drive. However, I can not seem to get it back onto my Desktop. I have tried logging out then in. And for some god forsaken reason, there is no multiple file download option through the web portal for iCloud.

How do I get my files back down on my laptop / or to another reliable cloud storage provider like Google Drive or Dropbox?????

Files stay on iCloud server only up to 30 days after 30 days they are deleted from the sever , few months have been passed , so the only way if you had set up time machine to restore , see these articles https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT209152
