Messages status reports

This question is about the Messages application. Mine is Version 12.0 (5500).

The application seems inconsistent in its reports of activities by the recipients of my messages. Sometimes the application shows when my message was read. More often the application notes only that it has delivered my message. But more than half the time the application provides no report at all. The application does not say whether it delivered my message, let alone whether someone at the other end read it.

Among the recipients I have in mind here, all are on iPhones. I do not recall any of them being on Macintoshes.

I do use Messages on two different computers. I have noticed that Messages often does not show on one computer a message sent on the other.

But when I look at messages that I know that I sent on a particular computer, I see the erratic reporting that I describe. And that's even within a single message thread with one individual.

Is there some way to get Messages to be consistent in its reporting of the messages that I send?
