How do I get a broken headphone jack out of my ipad?

The ifixit site sells a "grip stick" designed to remove headphone plugs.

I've been able to get the plug removed but was not successful in restoring function to the headphone jack; I suspect it got damaged in both instances. The internal speakers still worked so both users were content at least.

Honestly, I recommended this someone else today. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and see if they've got some micro-tweezers. I'm sure they've seen this before. Personally, I wouldn't try glue or a drill on my iPad. No offense zmclearan.

I had a friend who did this to his iPad and he went to the Apple Store and that's exactly what they used. When I said above micro-tweezers, my aged brain was searching for needle nose pliers, but the term escaped me.

Other than getting an out of warranty replacement, glue could make the situation worse and a drill could permanently damage the iPad and destroy the headphone jack. Neither are options I'd feel good about recommending someone do.

They may need to either live with this (not a good option as it would make listening to anything virtually impossible via the internal speakers or with headphones - except or course Bluetooth headphones). Or show it to Apple and see their options are.

A small pair of long, needle nose pliers may work as the end of the jack is so close to the outside of the iPad.

Bummer! I’ve not come across something like this happening. The first thing that comes to mind is using some Gorilla Glue to adhere something stiff to the metal piece. This is one of the strongest adhesives on the market and once the glue hardens it should allow you to pry that piece out. Something else that comes to mind would be to use a soldering iron to solder a piece of metal to the headphone jack which would let you pull it out. As a last resort you could use a drill to droll out the metal piece.

I’ll admit the drill is a last resort. I was working with someone with this exact problem a few years ago and the Apple Store employees weren’t able to do anything.
