Socks Proxy restarts

After the last upgrade of MacOS I was unable to access any of my mail accounts, After some digging with online support through Microsoft, we found the "Socks Proxy" had been activated. I turned it off and reset my mail program (Outlook) and everything worked fine. when I turned on the computer the next day the same problem occurred. I have tried deleting the content of the proxy, activating the Passive FTP Mode, Exclude simple hostnames, and the Auto Proxy Discovery buttons but nothing seems to be solve the issue.

Good Morning Jeremy,

Thank you for your response, I have printed the instructions out for future reference, however, after I posted this I found another thread which suggested that I check for malware. I did this and found 7 bad files. after deleting them and restarting the computer the problem has been resolved.

Hello, Jdowell.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you're having connectivity issues with your mail accounts and the issue has been linked to SOCKS proxy settings. You also mentioned that after troubleshooting, the issue was resolved until the computer was powered on the next day.

To isolate the issue further, check that you have security updates enabled for Mojave by going to  > System Preferences > Software Update > Advanced. From there, make sure 'Install system data files and security updates' is enabled.

If you are logged in as a password protected admin user on your Mac, you can trigger a background software update that may resolve the issue. The following steps should be performed after a restart of your Mac and after you have verified that SOCKS Proxy is still enabled.

-Open terminal on your password protected admin user account: Open or quit Terminal on Mac - Apple Support

-With a Terminal window open, type the following command, then press Return/Enter: sudo softwareupdate --background

-Wait 2-3 minutes

-Check System Preferences > Network > Advanced to see if 'SOCKS Proxy' is no longer enabled.

Let me know whether these steps resolve the issue or if the settings come back.

Cheers!
