mac mini intermittant internet connection

Mac mini 2012 MacOS Mojave

suddenly 5 days ago the Safari would just freeze, either very slow (less than 10 Mbps download) or no connection at all. (No hardware changes) Mac mini connected to modem by Ethernet and WiFi. iPhones and iPads work just fine over the same WiFi, speed about 90 at the same time the Mac mini doesn’t function. This will last for a few hours, I don’t know exactly how long and then functions normally for a few hours. Turning off and on doesn’t help, quitting Safari and restarting doesn’t help.

Please help, also I’m a bit of a computer bonehead so any instructions offered should take this into account.

Stay with ethernet, especially if you have USB 3.0 external drives connected to your Mac Mini.

Make sure that ethernet is at the top of the service order.

To adjust the service order, click on the cog and select Set Service Order...

Drag Ethernet to the top and click OK.

Replace the ethernet cable between the Mac Mini and router.

Turn off Wi-Fi if you do not need or require it for something else.
