Apple do not send out e-mail of lost device.

It's a phishing attempt to get your Apple ID & password to unlock the lost iPad for re-use.

Do not engage.

Looks like you're gullible. That's a Scam. If you provided the information your iPad is now being used by someone else and you'll never find it ever.

This link explains what you can expect if your device is lost or stolen. At no point does Apple say you may receive a text asking for your Apple ID and Password.

My iPad was stolen! And it didn’t send me the location of where it is even tho I got an email of my activation lock being requested. Channel 2 news would love to hear a story like this of apple not actually tracking your stolen devices witch is false advertising

You have misunderstood what Find My iPad/iPhone/iPod touch is about

It's for misplaced device and not against theft.

If you have FMiP ON before the lost, your data is safe and the device is useless without your Apple ID & password.

If you have further 2 factor authentication ON then having your Apple ID & password is not enough to unlock the last device.

FYI: Apple do not track your device for you.

To be able to track or locate an iPhone or iPad:

  1. Find My iPhone/iPad must be ON before lost/stolen
  2. iPhone/iPad has Internet connection
  3. iPhone/iPad is not switched OFF
  4. iPhone/iPad battery is not dead

All the above must be true.

Your device will ONLY be trackable if it is on and connected to a network. The reality is the vast majority of stolen devices are never found. Apple is not responsible for some thief using spurious methods to try to trick you into revealing your Apple ID and Password.

Good luck with that news story! ;-)

Ps: Apple is NOT going to try to help you find your device. They never get involved with lost or stolen devices.
