Airpod case charging status won't show up.

Hi,

I am unable to check the my Airpod wireless cases' charging status. I have followed the instructions on the Apple support page but it still won't work. I also tried forgetting the device and reconnecting it, but it just connects straight away without the initial setting up steps?

Please advise on what I should do.
